Good Class Bungalow Development

Holland Park, Singapore.

The Brief

Designed on 2 lots in the exclusive Holland Park neighbourhood, 17-18 Ewart Park was designed as a series of pavilions situated around a central open courtyard garden. The central extensively landscaped courtyard was used as an outdoor ‘room’ by the owners with its importance in allowing cross ventilation to all spaces being vital. Each room opens onto the courtyard and in conjunction with openings on the exterior of the building the ability to allow the breeze to flow through the rooms greatly decreases the need for artificial cooling. Incorporating wide roof eaves to shelter the windows allows the rooms to be naturally ventilated even in the heaviest of downpours.

The ground floor external walls were built in face brick imported from Australia providing a visually solid base, whilst the upper floor was finished in coloured cement render.  Dark terra-cotta tiles were used for the roof, with roof vents and additional insulation incorporated in the roof structure to ensure the thermal comfort of the occupants.

Double glazed aluminium framed windows, steel framed insulated drywalls and cavity block walls are used to ensure the interior building environment is kept stable
