The Brief

Located within the beautifully mature landscaped grounds of Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort, Chi, The Spa was designed as an integral part of the Multi-million dollar upgrade of the Hotel. Designed in Chi’s distinctive style of Tibetan and Himalayan influences, Chi The Spa at Rasa Sayang incorporates indigenous Malay and Peranakan influences. Richly detailed elements such as window lattices and deep stone walls from Tibet are coupled with intricate wood carvings and timber work found within Peranakan Architecture. The Sanctum is reached via a gently rising timber walkway which first takes the guest through an arbor of bamboo and then over a pond teaming with life. Guests are escorted to their self contained Garden Suites or Deluxe Villas within the village via paths surrounded by native vegetation and the signature layered ‘bamboo’ which is an essential element to Chi landscaping. Yoga can be enjoyed within the specialized Yoga Pavilion, or outdoor on the lawn below soaring centuries old rain trees.

Planning for the entire Spa Village, including integration of arrival from the Main Hotel

Complete Architecture and Interior Design for all buildings within the Spa

Public area soft and hardscape design within the Chi boundary and at the Chi arrival zones within the main hotel
